WANAKI JUNIOR GOLF HISTORY

Wisconsin and Wanaki Golf Course Wanaki Golf Course has been offering Junior Golfers opportunities to learn, grow their game, and compete at a high level since the 1980’s. The current Junior League, which started in 1978, has given 200-300 juniors per year the opportunity to learn the game of golf and enhance their skills while participating in a fun and healthy atmosphere. Our Junior Lessons teach hundreds of kids per year the basics of golf from beginners to serious competitors.

Wanaki has been the home of many area High School Golf teams throughout the years and is proud to host many Tournaments including the Waukesha County Boys and Waukesha County Girls High School Championships, The Brookfield Central Bestball, The BC/Homestead Girls Invitational, The Brian Schroeder Memorial, Conference Tournaments, and W.I.A.A Boys and Girls High School Regional and Sectional Tournaments.

Wanaki is also the home to a team in the Nationally recognized PGA Junior Team Series. Many young golfers who still play competitively at the college level, Amateur Tournament Level, and PGA level started their competitive Golf Careers in Junior Programs or in High School Golf at Wanaki. Wanaki will also host an Under Armour Junior traveling event in 2024.

The First Tee of Southeastern Wisconsin and Wanaki Golf Course share a partnership that enables local youth the opportunity to tee it up at Wanaki both in the indoor simulators and on the outdoor green grass. The annual “Frank Mulac Memorial Club Drive” is held during  the summer at Wanaki to collect donations of clubs, bags, and supplies. This equipment gathering helps The First Tee of Southeastern Wisconsin put clubs in the hands of kids who don’t always have the resources and opportunities to get them.

Wanaki has been the recipient of “The Friend of Golf Award” in 2001, 2013, and 2022. This award is presented annually by the Wisconsin State High School Golf Coaches Association and the awards are proudly displayed in the Wanaki Pro Shop.

In 2015, the three top individual golf competitions in the state of Wisconsin were won by players who strolled the fairways of Wanaki as Junior Golfers:

  • Wisconsin State Open Champion- Kyle Henning
  • Wisconsin State Amateur Champion- Eddie Wajda
  • Wisconsin State Public Links Champion- Tom Halla
FUN TID BIT!

“Wanaki is proud to be a ‘Generational Golf Course’. Players who played here in the 1970’s and 1980’s are now watching their Grandkids play competitive High School Golf. Junior Golfers who were once dropped off by their parents to play Junior Golf are now dropping off their own children to experience the fun they had years ago. The History of Junior Golf here is legendary, Thank You for being a part of it.”
